The ICOH Scientific Committee on Occupational Medicine (SCOM) marks a new milestone: our 5th International Conference makes its debut in the historic coastal city of İzmir. Known for centuries as a vital trade hub bridging continents, İzmir is the ideal backdrop for a conversation on how occupational medicine actually operates on the ground in developing nations.

Under the theme Occupational Medicine in Practice: Challenges & Solutions in Developing Countries, we are gathering occupational clinicians, researchers in occupational health, and other OSH practitioners to confront real-world workplace health challenges with practical, scalable solutions.

What to expect over 3 days:

  • Keynotes and plenary sessions tackling real-world clinical and workplace implementation.
  • Dynamic oral and poster presentations showcasing regional and global evidence.
  • Direct networking with colleagues committed to practical, sustainable health interventions.

As Co-chair for the conference and Chair of SCOM, I am thrilled to invite you to join us from 30th September to 2nd October 2027.

Come for the critical science, stay for the collaborative energy, and experience İzmir as we chart the next chapter of occupational health together. Mark your calendars—registration opens January 1, 2027.

    Co-Chair for the Conference

As the ICOH National Secretary for Türkiye and Co-Chair of this conference, it is my privilege to welcome you to İzmir on behalf of our national occupational health and safety community.

For Türkiye, hosting the 5th SCOM International Conference alongside the 2nd Congress of the Association of Occupational Diseases Specialists (İMUD) is a milestone moment. It brings the international expertise of ICOH-SCOM directly to our clinicians, researchers, and occupational health and safety (OHS) professionals, creating a rare opportunity for local practitioners to engage face-to-face with global leaders in occupational medicine and to carry that knowledge back into workplaces across the country.

This exchange runs both ways. Türkiye’s occupational physicians, nurses, safety engineers, and researchers work daily with the realities of a rapidly industrialising, developing-country context, and this conference gives them a platform to share that practical experience with the international community, exactly the kind of two-way dialogue our theme calls for.

As National Secretary, one of my greatest hopes for this conference is that it brings our national OHS community together in one room: physicians and safety professionals, academics and policymakers, employers and worker representatives, many of whom rarely have the chance to meet across their usual professional boundaries. I believe that this kind of gathering strengthens not only individual careers, but the collective capacity of Türkiye’s occupational health system as a whole.

Together with SCOM and İMUD, I warmly invite you to join us in İzmir, and to help us build lasting bridges between international research and everyday practice in occupational health.

As the Association of Occupational Diseases Specialists (İMUD), we consider it a fundamental responsibility to support scientific output regarding the protection of worker health and the prevention of occupational diseases, to bring together diverse disciplines, and to share the knowledge and experience gained in our country in this field with the international scientific community.

For this reason, participating in the organization of the 5th SCOM International Conference, held in collaboration with the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), and the 2nd İMUD Congress holds a special significance for me that goes far beyond merely managing the congress preparation process.

By its very nature, the field of occupational diseases requires us to think beyond borders. While transformations in working life, new technologies, and emerging exposures bring about distinct risks, they also necessitate the sharing of scientific experiences and the development of joint solutions among nations. Therefore, I attach great value to bridging the expertise on occupational diseases in our country with international experience.

I hope that this event, which will bring together scientists, clinicians, and occupational health professionals from various countries on a shared scientific platform, will serve not only as a congress for exchanging current information but also as a starting point for new scientific collaborations and joint initiatives.

As the President of İMUD and one of the organizers of this event, I am delighted and excited to contribute to the realization of such a significant international scientific gathering.

We would be delighted to welcome you to this important scientific event, where science, experience, and international collaboration converge.
